The Cheltenham Gag is a strong bit, designed to be used when more control is needed.
It works by fitting gag cheeks (available separately) which pass through the holes in the eggbutt cheeks and attach directly to the rein.
The Cheltenham Gag provides additional control by raising the bit up in the horses mouth, as well applying poll pressure.
